LIFE IN STEIN:

LEARNING TOGETHER SUCCESSFULLY

Boarding schools have always been places of learning, personal development and living together. They offer a unique environment in which young people can grow not only academically, but also socially and emotionally. The motto "Growing together", which we follow at Schloss Stein boarding school, sums up the essence of boarding school life and emphasizes the importance of community, support and shared development.

Structure as the foundation for success

A defining aspect of boarding school life is the clear structure that characterizes the students' everyday lives. Fixed meal times, study times and leisure activities create a framework that provides orientation and security. This structure helps the young people to use their time effectively, set priorities and take responsibility for their tasks.

In addition, the structure promotes the development of important soft skills such as self-discipline, organization and time management - skills that are not only of great benefit at boarding school, but also in later life.

It is important to understand that structure at boarding school is not understood as a rigid discipline, but as a supportive framework that helps young people to develop themselves. The structure creates space for individual development and enables students to recognize and work on their own strengths and weaknesses.

Community as a breeding ground for personal development

A boarding school is more than just a place to learn - it is a community in which young people live together, learn from each other and support each other. Everyday life at boarding school is characterized by shared meals, leisure activities and projects that strengthen cohesion and convey a sense of belonging.

In this community, friendships are formed that often last a lifetime. Pupils learn to show consideration for one another, resolve conflicts and overcome challenges together. These experiences shape their personality and promote their social skills.

The boarding school community is a reflection of society at large. Here, young people learn to fit into a group, find their own role and take responsibility for the common good. They learn to be tolerant, to respect other opinions and to look for solutions together.

Holistic development

For us at Stein , the focus is always on the relationship: entering into regular but also informal relationships with the young people, i.e. engaging in conversation and encouraging growth. Here, we agree on specific development goals based on the young person's initial prerequisites and the expectations from the teaching content and pedagogy. The goals include the student's entire personality, the lessons, and topics for the study period as well as extracurricular activities and are set by the older students themselves; for the younger students, we naturally support the process with concrete suggestions.

Education as a holistic process

Boarding schools attach great importance to a holistic education that is not limited to teaching subject knowledge. In addition to lessons, pupils have the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extracurricular activities, whether in the fields of sport, music or creativity.

These activities offer young people the opportunity to discover their talents, pursue their interests and surpass themselves. They learn to work in a team, take responsibility and use their own strengths.

The holistic education at the boarding school aims to develop young people into independent, mature and responsible personalities. They should not only acquire knowledge, but also learn how to learn, how to think and how to find their way in a complex world.

At Schloss Stein boarding school, we have set up a course for Year 13 pupils that teaches them important "survival skills" for the time after boarding school. This course is designed to make the transition to an independent life easier for the young people and prepare them for the challenges that await them.

It covers a wide range of topics that play a major role in everyday life. These include, for example, understanding rental contracts, preparing a tax return or mending holes in clothing. Basic cooking skills are also taught so that the students are able to prepare healthy meals for themselves.

This course is a valuable addition to regular lessons and is designed to help the students to better navigate their future lives. We are convinced that these "survival skills" will make an important contribution to their personal development and make it easier for them to start a successful and independent life.

Community weekends

Boarding schools are not only a place to learn, but also offer pupils the opportunity to

opportunity to gain intensive social experience. A particularly valuable element of this are the

Community weekends that create a close bond between the young people and their supervisors. Seven official and two unofficial weekends take place over the course of the Steiner school year - specially designed periods that enrich everyday life and create unforgettable experiences.

The range of activities in Stein extends from sporting events and exciting excursions to the annual scavenger hunt, theater trips and a social media workshop with an ex-Googler to festive highlights such as the Advent market and the winter ball. The focus is not only on fun and relaxation, but also on promoting important skills such as communication, empathy, conflict resolution and teamwork.

Community weekends offer a valuable opportunity to reduce tensions, strengthen friendships and build cohesion. Through shared experiences away from the classroom, students learn to support and trust each other. These intensive social experiences promote personal development and create lasting memories - in line with our motto "Growing together".

"Growing together" as a leitmotif

The motto "Growing together" illustrates the central importance of community and personal development in boarding school life. It expresses the fact that pupils at boarding school not only learn, but also mature and develop as individuals.

The community provides them with the necessary backing and support to achieve their goals and realize their dreams. The boarding school thus becomes a place where young people not only complete their A-levels, but also gain valuable experience for their lives.

"Growing together" also means that the pupils learn from and inspire each other. They learn to recognize and accept their own strengths and weaknesses, and they learn to benefit from the strengths of others.

The boarding school creates a unique dynamic in which each individual student is part of a larger community. Everyone plays their part in making the boarding school a place of growth and development.
