Factory tour Adelholzener Alpenquellen

As part of the company explorations in the subjects of business informatics and career orientation, classes 9 and 10 visited the Adelholzener Alpenquellen on 12.02.2026. The excursion was organized and accompanied by Ms Kraus, with Mr Libold and Mr Lex also accompanying the group. Two students from the group, Xaver and Alex, have summarized their impressions in the following report.

Our excursion to Adelholzener Alpenquellen was an exciting and informative experience. Right at the beginning, we were given an introduction to the history of the company. We were told that Adelholzener has its origins in the 19th century. The spring is located in the Bavarian Alps near Bad Adelholzen and today belongs to the Sisters of Mercy of the Frauenchiemsee Monastery. The special purity and quality of the water from the Alps was recognized early on. Commercial bottling of the mineral water finally began in 1907. Over the years, Adelholzener has developed into one of the best-known mineral springs in Germany. Regionality, sustainability and the protection of natural springs are particularly important to the company. The water comes from deep, protected layers of rock in the Alps and is processed particularly gently so that the valuable minerals are preserved.

After the historical introduction, a trainee spoke to us about the various career opportunities in the industry. She explained to us which school-leaving qualifications are required for certain apprenticeships. With a qualifying secondary school leaving certificate, for example, you can start training as a specialist in food technology or as a machine and plant operator. If you have an intermediate school-leaving certificate, you can also enter professions such as industrial clerk or IT specialist. If you have a high school diploma, you can also complete a dual course of study in business administration, beverage technology or food management. The trainee explained that both manual skills and technical understanding are important in the beverage industry. At the same time, organization, hygiene and teamwork play a major role. It was interesting to hear how many different opportunities there are in a company like this – from production to the laboratory to the office.

We were then given a tour of the factory. There we were able to see live how the drinks are produced and bottled. First, the mineral water is extracted from the spring and checked. The bottles are then cleaned, filled and sealed in modern facilities. It was particularly impressive to see how quickly the machines work: Within a few seconds, numerous bottles are filled and prepared for dispatch. We were told that regular quality checks are carried out to ensure that taste and purity are always consistently high. Hygiene is also very strictly observed. Employees wear special clothing to prevent contamination.

During the tour, we were also able to recognize many topics that we had already discussed in class. This became particularly clear when it came to logistics and transportation logistics. Once the bottles have been filled and packaged, they have to be stored in an organized manner and then transported to supermarkets and other points of sale. Planning, storage and correct transportation play an important role in ensuring that the drinks reach the customer quickly and safely. The automated machines and production processes also fitted in well with the topics of production, technology and work organization that we covered in class. This allowed us to see the theoretical knowledge from school directly in practice.

At the end of the tour, we were allowed to try different drinks. We were able to test for ourselves which varieties we liked best. We, Xaver and Alex, liked pomegranate lemon and lemon iced tea the best. It was exciting to taste the differences between the individual varieties and try out new flavors.

At the end, each of us received a small gift. We received two drinks, a key ring and jelly babies. Of course, everyone was very happy about that. We then made our way back to Stein. All in all, it was a very interesting and varied excursion, during which we learned a lot about the history, production, logistics and various professions associated with Adelholzener.
